Recently, the Jefferson School celebrated Autism Awareness Day by wearing blue. LIGHT IT UP BLUE 💙

The Thomas Jefferson School would like to thank Sara Slavin from the Pedialyte Corporation for donating samples of the Pedialyte AdvancedCare Plus Powder to help our students stay replenished and hydrated during sports activities. It was very informative.

The Thomas Jefferson School would like to thank Mr. Steve Luker for providing our students with an entertaining and educational show regarding the importance of fire safety. The Fire Safety Show used fun magic, comedy and student participation to engage them on numerous important life saving skills and information. Our students were engaged and the learning was essential. Great show!

Thomas Jefferson School's Innovative Programs and the Act Now Foundation presented to our parents an after-school workshop titled "Understanding Alzheimer's & Dementia" with presenter Cary Lopez, Co-Founder and Executive Director. Our parents enjoyed this informative workshop. There was also a special musical performance by our talented students lead by our music teacher, Mr. Rodriguez.

In celebration of Thomas Jefferson's birthday (April 13th) we read a story titled, A Picture Book of Thomas Jefferson by David A. Alder. Students completed their Biography Poster and illustrated Thomas Jefferson holding the Declaration of Independence.

During Tasty Tuesday, students listened to "A Friendship Fruit Salad" read aloud and discussed ways to be a good friend such as sharing, taking turns, and using kind words. Next, students enjoyed a rainbow fruit salad. While making the fruit salad students used their counting skills to see how many of each fruit they have and which one has more or less. Students identified the different colors and shapes of the fruits and shared which fruit was their favorite.

During the Week of the Young Child, Ms. Ferrante's Pre-Kindergarten students learned about different breathing techniques to use if they are feeling sad or upset. Students practiced rainbow breathing, bee breathing and flower/candle breathing. Students also used rice and balloons to create a stress ball that can be used when feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

Mrs. Michael’s First Grade class from Jefferson Elementary School learned about the solar eclipse. Students first watched a video about what happens during a solar eclipse. Then, they put on a play, in which they took turns pretending to be the sun, moon and earth. While other students wore safety glasses and pretended to watch. Afterwards, students created their own solar eclipse diagram depicting either partial or total eclipsing. Finally, Mrs. Michael discussed safety rules about what to do during a solar eclipse.

Thomas Jefferson School's PTO Breakfast was held recently and was hosted by our Parent Liaison, Ms. Nancy Francisco and our workshop presenter Mrs. Nancy Aleman (Director of the Community Outreach Program in Hoboken). Our parents were able to learn and discuss "The Simple Secrets of Eating Healthy."
