Biography:

 

It is a pleasure of mine to be your child’s second grade teacher at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. This will be my 5th year teaching second grade. Every child has the potential to achieve great things. I want my students to enjoy learning and feel free to be creative and inspired by learning. We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the days ahead!

Virtual Learning:

 

Schedule-

Students are expected to attend class virtually everyday.

Lunch starts at 12:00 PM and ends at 12:40 PM.

8:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays

10:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Wednesdays

 

Expectations-

1. Students should be dressed appropriately.

2. Students should be working on a desk or table.

3. Stay on mute. If you want to answer or ask a question click on the Raise Hand button.

 

Rules-

1. Find a quiet place free of distractions.

2. Show up in time for class.

3. Bring all of your supplies.

4. Raise your hand to answer and ask questions.

5. Be respectful at all times.

6. Eyes are watching.

7. Ears are listening.

 

 

Classroom Procedures & Policies for In-Person Instruction:

 

Folders- Important notices and forms to be completed will be placed in your child’s folders.  Please check their folders daily and return any forms back with your child as soon as possible.

 

 

Homework- Students will receive math, reading, and spelling homework throughout the week. Worksheets will be placed in their Thomas Jefferson School folders.

Assessments/Tests: 

 

Reading Selection Test:  Students will be given a reading selection test every Friday. The test is divided into the following four sections: VocabularyPhonicsComprehension, and Written Selection. Some weekly tests will consist of NJSLA Questions along with a Prose Constructed Response (PCR) for the story of the week.  

 

Spelling Test:  Students will be given a spelling test every Friday.  The spelling words can be found in their spelling notebooks.  They are color coded to focus attention on our weekly phonics skill.  

 

Math Test:  Students will be given a math test approximately every two weeks once a topic is completed. Students will be notified prior to the test date. Before the test date, students will be given a math review sheet for homework. This will allow them to review the strategies that were introduced to them during instruction time.  

 

Social Studies and Science Tests: Students will be given social studies tests and science tests once each chapter is completed.  Students will be notified prior to the test date. Before the test date, students will be given a study guide to complete and review.

 

Test Folders:

 

Once tests are graded, they will be placed in your child's test folders.  Please sign and review the test at home with your child.  Kindly return the test folder as soon as possible.  Grades can also be viewed on the parent portal.
