Biography

Hello Kindergarten Families! My name is Ivanna Alvarado. A little bit about myself: Currently residing in Jersey City but I can proudly say that I grew up in the Union City school District. In grade 2, I came to Thomas Jefferson School. Grades 3-8 were spent in Robert Waters, and my high school years grades 9-12 were spent in Union Hill High School (before it was changed to a middle school). This is my first year teaching after graduating from New Jersey City University in May 2021. I am very excited to be working in the school district where I spent my childhood and have the best memories growing up. It feels like I have come full circle being able to give back to the community that helped mold and educate me. My teaching philosophy is a simple one: for all the students who step into my classroom to feel welcome and safe. I want my classroom to be the best part of their day. We play hard and work harder.

Classroom Procedures and Policies

School Folders - Yellow folders will be sent home with your child DAILY. Please make sure to check their backpacks. The Yellow folders will have daily homework and any important information for parents including school activities and events.

Assessment, Test and Quizzes- Every Friday, students will be assessed on the letters of the week and sight words of the week. We will have plenty of practice before hand. These assessments are stress free, I allow each student plenty of time and do not expect perfection.

In conclusion: I hope that everyone has a safe and happy school year! We will work together to make this year a magical experience for all our Kindergarteners.
