Mrs. Michael's Class Celebrating Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day is a traditional holiday that originated in the United States. And it is celebrated on February 2nd of every year. The story goes that on this day every year a groundhog will emerge from its burrow and if it’s cloudy and the groundhog does not see its shadow then the spring season will begin early, if the groundhog sees its shadow however there will be six more weeks of winter. So the students of Room 110 decided to test that for themselves.
On February 2nd, 2017, Phil, the groundhog saw his shadow. At Jefferson School room 110 decided to have that experience ! We decorated and cutout pictures of groundhogs and mounted each on a popsicle stick. Then we darkened the room and turned on a flashlight and students were able to test the conditions in which shadows can or cannot take place.
