This past Friday, students in grades K-3 celebrated, as the Chinese do in China and their respective Chinese communities do in the United States, the new Lunar Year. The students had been studying the Asian culture and festivities.
The students learned how wearing the colors of orange, red, and gold bring about luck for the upcoming year. The also learned how to create paper lanterns, a symbolic paper dragon, and traditional dance to bring about the year of "The Rooster".
These Jefferson students ended the study by wearing the colors of luck to their decorated classrooms where they enjoyed their hard work with a big meal of Chinese food that was prepared by a local restaurant which included oranges, fortune cookies, and ice cream while watching "Mulan".
"Gung Hay Fat Choy!" (Happy New Year!)
