Thomas Jefferson School would like to welcome back and recognize our New Jersey Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO), Anthony (Tony) Gouveia. Officer Tony, as he is known in the TJS school community, has over 29 years of policing experience, before retiring in February 2017, from the Kearny Police Department. At the Kearny police department, Lieutenant Gouveia was in charge of a 12-person detective bureau. Lieutenant Gouveia has a wealth of experience in various police department capacities, which include the juvenile detective bureau, Megan's law, firearms registration, background checks, warrant authorization, and arrest. Officer Tony also has many police accomplishments. He has been decorated numerous times for many lifesaving incidences. He was named policeman of the year twice and was recognized by the FBI for his assistance in the investigation, apprehension, and conviction of a serial bank robber. For the past 3 years, Officer Tony has worked as a New Jersey Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) for the Union City Board of Education, assigned at Thomas Jefferson School.
