Laurie Tortorella

Laurie Tortorella brings over 22 years of service in the Union City School District to her new position at Thomas Jefferson School, a change about which she is committed, passionate and exited. Her long and varied career includes Middle School Teacher, Primary School Teacher, Pre-School Teacher, Reading Recovery Teacher, Bilingual/Bicultural Teacher, English As a Second Language Teacher, Reading First Coordinator, Reading First Grant Writer, and Education Supervisor. Laurie is highly recognized for her knowledge and experience in the field of education and educational leadership. She received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Peter’s University and Master of Arts from New Jersey City University. Laurie’s list of professional associations and affiliations is varied and diverse. They include Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education, district curricula committees, school leadership committees, district evaluation committees, administrative teams, and NJDOE Reading First committees. Through innovation and hard work, Laurie motivates herself and those around her to do their best, always quietly providing the necessary support to help everyone succeed. She is a dedicated educational leader. She believes her varied and extensive experiences in education have provided her with a strong foundation and passion to bring success to the Thomas Jefferson School Community. Together with hard work, dedication and commitment from teachers, staff, students and parents she envisions Jefferson School as a safe, supportive, and challenging environment where all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
