Fun SEL Activities

In addition, Mrs. Larcheveque's First Grade students looked at themselves in a small mirror and discussed amongst themselves how they were feeling. The students then drew a picture and continued to brainstorm numerous ways that they can help their friends when they are feeling certain emotions.

Also, students in Mrs. Tello's Kindergarten class were introduced to Tucker the Turtle for Socio-Emotional Learning Day. Tucker shows young children how to “Stop, tuck, and think” (a.k.a. the Turtle Technique) before they say or give into overwhelming feelings. Students were taught how to use deep breathing techniques to calm down and they created a turtle craft that focused on giving 8 choices to utilize when behaviors become too challenging.

Lastly, Mrs. Romero’s first grade class began the SEL week by establishing an educational discussion and connection on the importance of how Social Emotional Learning helps us develop different skills to control our feelings in different situations. The students were then guided to draw a daily picture of themselves using a mirror to reflect how they felt throughout the week. The students were then encouraged to write some sentences related to the emotions they were feeling, ultimately incorporating this activity into their morning message.
